Friday Favs | Mid Mod Edition

Hey guys! If you caught my post earlier this week, you know we just got back from Palm Springs where we visited some family and went to Modernism Week!!! It was SO cool. Seriously. I was in design heaven. For those of you that don’t know, Modernism Week is in Palm Springs, CA where there are tons of mid century modern homes built by a lot of Hollywood stars back in the day. During Modernism Week you can take tours of many of these homes. Garrison Street Design Studio - Friday Favs | Mid Mod Edition

Leonardo DiCaprio even has a home there now, but sadly we did not tour his house nor did I bump into him 🙁 Anyway, in the spirit of MCM, I thought I would create a backyard design inspired by my favorite house on the tour in case anyone wants to bring a little Palm Springs mid mod to their outdoor oasis! And the best part is, this whole design is completely realistic coming in at $3,215. Not to say that isn’t a chunk of change, because it definitely is, but mid century furnishings tend to be VERY pricey, so I would call this a win! Seriously, we spent a good portion of a day browsing the MCM stores in downtown Palm Springs and gasping at price tags. So much so, that when we went into West Elm, it almost seemed cheap, haha!

This house, Casa Estrella, was my favorite on the tour and had an insanely cool backyard. Like you are someone if you get invited to their parties. Garrison Street Design Studio - Friday Favs | Mid Mod Edition

So I drew some inspiration from it and created a cool mid mod backyard oasis for the everyday dreamer.

For me, the first thing I want in a backyard space is a place to dine. In the warmer months we do a lot of grilling so why not eat outside too? This dining set perfectly fits that mid mod vibe and doesn’t break the bank. null
If you have room for lounging, then a sofa, chairs and a fire pit are next on my wish list. An excellent place to relax day or night.

And if you still have room, something fun can really make a big impact, like these orange sling rocking chairs paired with this black and white side table. For those chilly nights, a little extra heat.

And lastly the accessories! I just love the pattern play with these black and white pillows and pouf paired with these faceted orange garden stools as side tables!

These green and blue pillows give the design an extra punch of bold color that MCM is notorious for. And can you believe this rug I found? It goes with the pillows perfectly! And a little something for the dining table to tie in the blue.

I don’t know about you, but this gives me all the feels and makes me want to bring Palm Springs to Colorado. Maybe plant a palm tree in the backyard? Ok, maybe not that, but you get the idea 😉 What do you think? Are you ready to take on a mid mod backyard design?
